The First Italian Exit Polls Are Out

According to exit polls reported by Bloomberg, Pier Luigi Bersani is projected to win.

Here’s a breakdown of the exit polls:

Sky News Poll, Chamber results:

  • Bersani: 34.5 percent
  • Berlusconi: 29 percent
  • Grillo: 19 percent
  • Monti: 9.5 percent

RAI poll, Senate results

  • Bersani: 36-38 percent
  • Berlusconi: 30-32 percent

The Partito Democratico (PD) is lead by Pier Luigi Bersani, and the hope of the international community is that he will emerge victorious, and carry on with Italy’s “reform” path.

The fear has been that either conservative Silvio Berlusconi or populist rebel Beppe Grillo will have a huge day, causing Europe’s largest bond market to backslide, resulting in market chaos and surging yields.
